Measure Your Head: A Simple Hat Size Guide
One minute with a measuring tape saves you from a cap that pinches or slides. Here is how to find your size before you order.

What you need
A soft sewing tape measure is ideal. No tape? Use a piece of string, mark where it meets, and measure it against a ruler. That is all it takes.
Where to measure
Wrap the tape around your head about 1 cm above your eyebrows and ears — exactly where a cap naturally sits. Keep it snug but not tight, and read the number in centimetres. Most adults fall between 54 and 61 cm.
- 54–56 cm: small / youth to small adult
- 56–58 cm: medium, the most common adult size
- 58–61 cm: large
- 61 cm and up: extra large — adjustable closures are your friend
Adjustable vs fitted
Nearly all of our caps at Caps Canada are adjustable — snapback, strapback, or hook-and-loop — so one size covers roughly 54 to 61 cm. If your measurement sits at either end of the range, tell us in your order notes and we will recommend the models with the deepest or shallowest crowns.
Between sizes?
Size up. A cap worn slightly loose is comfortable all day; a cap worn tight leaves a mark on your forehead by noon. Adjustable closures let you fine-tune the last centimetre either way.
